Nursing Informatics Specialist

The Nursing Informatics Specialist (NIS) role integrates nursing science, computer science and information science to manage and communicate data, information and knowledge. This position serves as a clinical informatics resource, in a liaison role between clinical end-users and information technology. The NIS contributes knowledge from a comprehensive understanding of nursing/clinical processes and practice standards, clinical informatics systems, patient flow, and operational processes to contribute to the use of data as a foundation for accurate, reliable and clinically meaningful measurements. The NIS provides expertise related to the use of "big data" for analysis and prediction, organizational and clinical integration, and interoperability, to improve costs, outcomes and quality. The NIS promotes the use of evidence-based clinical practice, and actively participates in initiatives related to the identification of emerging information technologies and applications, technological selection, implementation, adoption, optimization, data capture, and usage to support optimal clinical effectiveness and efficiency. Education • RN with active California RN License • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
Preferred: • Master’s Degree in Nursing/Healthcare Informatics • Lean training • EPIC certification • Hospital leadership experience • Project management and/or project team leadership |
