General Statement of Duties: Reports to the President. Responsible for the oversight and direction of hospice clinical services resulting in the delivery of exceptional patient care. Establishes, implements and evaluates goals and objectives for hospice services that meet and promote the standards of quality and contribute to the total organization and philosophy. Leads and supervises clinical disciplines.
Oversees Coastal Hospice’s clinical services. Collaborates with the AIDG to implement processes in alignment with agency’s strategic goals, which requires;
Minimum two year’s experience in healthcare administration. Hospice preferred.
Master’s degree in nursing, business administration, healthcare administration or related field.
Thorough understanding of Hospice Conditions of Participation, Medicare Hospice Benefit, Code of Maryland Regulation for Hospices and Joint Commission standards.
Knowledge of hospice service reimbursement.
Experience in policy creation related to patient care.
Leads AIDG. Actively participates in Sr. Leadership, Education, Emergency Preparedness, PI, Infection Control and Ethics committees.
Motivation, confidence and emotional maturity to function in a leadership capacity.
Provides leadership and direct supervision to managers and supervisors of nursing, social work, chaplaincy, and volunteers, which requires;
Proven mastery supervising, mentoring and coaching teams over a broad range of patient care disciplines.
Fostering a culture of excellence in professional standards of practice with an emphasis on professional development and customer service.
Meets routinely with team leaders and department managers to communicate information and solicit input to support compliance and effectiveness of clinical operations.
Conducts periodic and annual performance evaluations on direct reports.
Achievement of Hospice and Palliative Certification within 2 years.
In collaboration with Director of Human Resources, recruits, interviews, hires, trains, coaches, counsels and retains direct reports.
Participates in Coastal Hospice Speaker’s Bureau and conducts other presentations as necessary including;
Active participation in Hospice and Palliative Care Network of Maryland association and serves on committees.
Promotion of Coastal Hospice among health professional and in the community.
Effectively prepares for and ensures adherence with all Maryland and federal regulations and accreditation standards so that Coastal Hospice meets or exceeds them.
Assists President with preparation and administration of the agency’s budget for clinical services which requires;
Ability to analyze and report statistical data.
Fiscal responsibility for appropriate use of resources.
Monitoring expenses to ensure quality care is being provided within operational budget
Interprets indicators to detect census changes and increases or decreases in volume that could impact staffing levels, revenues or expenses.
Confers regularly and systematically with the President on matters related to management of clinical areas.
Assists with the evaluation of organization performance via clinical metrics to assure the quality and safe delivery of hospice services.
Promotes effective communication between disciplines and departments within Coastal Hospice.
Meets, at a minimum, annually with leadership at contracted hospitals and other facilities. Assists President with contract negotiations and renewals.
Actively participates in emergency preparedness program.
In absence of President, collaborates with VP of Operations to ensure continuity of patient care and operations.
Maintains clinical skills and professional development to provide nursing care as necessary or during extraordinary circumstances.
Oversees maintenance of patient clinical records, statistics, reports and records for purposes of evaluation and reporting of organization activities.
Master's Degree in Nursing and healthcare administration preferred.
Superior physical assessment skills
Registered Nurse licensed to work in the state of Maryland and current CPR certification for Healthcare Provider (BLS)
Ability to work independently, efficiently and to make sound nursing judgments utilizing critical thinking skills with a minimum of direct supervision
Sight, hearing and manual dexterity to function with or without prosthetics use that will enable these senses to function adequately to fulfill the requirements of the job.
The ability to lift, push, pull or move patients, equipment, supplies, etc. in excess of 50 pounds with or without the use of adaptive/assistive devices.
The ability to negotiate level and unlevel surfaces with or without the use of assistive devices.
