Practice Greenhealth is the nation’s leading health care community that empowers its members to increase their efficiencies and environmental stewardship while improving patient safety and care through tools, best practices and knowledge. As the nation’s leading membership and networking organization for providers in the health care community that have made a commitment to sustainable, environment...ally friendly practices, Practice Greenhealth members include hospitals, health care systems, businesses and other stakeholders engaged in the greening of health care to improve the health of patients, staff and the environment. Some programs of Practice Greenhealth include a yearly awards program for its members, the annual CleanMed conference, targeted programs such as Greening the Operating Room and Greening the Supply Chain, and toolkits and support for members to assist them in their sustainability initiatives. Practice Greenhealth is Health Care Without Harm’s (HCWH) membership organization to provide implementation support to enterprises and practitioners.
HCWH and Practice Greenhealth work to transform the health sector worldwide so that it becomes ecologically sustainable and a leading advocate for environmental health and justice across the globe. Our vision is that healthcare leaders across the world (hospitals, clinics, providers) embrace a restorative health philosophy that makes continuous improvement of environmental health a strategic and moral priority. We seek to use strategically targeted interventions in ways that change broader system behavior at scale over time by investing in research and innovation; providing implementation support to individual enterprises and networks; and creating large-scale change by aggregating the purchasing power and influence of leading edge practitioners. We work through three kinds of organizational designs to carry out our mission: research and advocacy organizations, membership organizations, and engagement networks. The five core goals of the organizations relate to climate change, safer chemicals, healthy food, waste reduction, and clean and abundant water. HCWH and Practice Greenhealth share complementary missions but operate as two distinct nonprofit organizations, with two distinct boards that share some overlapping members. This position would work very closely with HCWH.
