The CardioVascular Center at Tufts Medical Center is actively seeking to recruit a Critical Care Medicine Physician to join its team at a time of unprecedented growth. The Physician will care for patients in the Cardiac Care Unit and Cardio-Thoracic ICU. These units are focused on caring for patients with complex cardiovascular disease, and include patients awaiting or having undergone a heart transplant and/or a Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD); as well as patients being supported by non-durable mechanical circulatory support systems (e.g., ECMO). These critical care units are staffed with house staff, fellows, and physician assistants. It is an exciting, collegial environment, where all patients have mandatory involvement of intensivist and co-management with either a cardiologist or cardiothoracic surgeon.
All clinical work will be in the ICU setting. The intensivist will round on an average of 10 patients with 3 to 4 admissions daily.
The successful candidate should be Board Certified in Critical Care Medicine and be able to place chest tubes and perform thoracentesis and bronchoscopy. Experience caring for patients with cardiogenic shock and acute mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, Impella, and intraaortic balloon pumps) preferred.
The candidate will be joining The CardioVascular Center (CVC), as well as the appropriate academic department / division, depending on his/her background. The CVC is one of the strongest such programs in the nation. The Cardiac Surgery service performs approximately 1,000 surgeries per year. Our Advanced Heart Failure Service is the largest in New England, with one of the highest post-transplant survival rates in the country. Our Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center is one of the busiest (by some metrics, the busiest) in the nation, performing approximately 100 surgical myectomies per year.
