The Director is responsible for the overall organization and daily operations of the Health Information Management Department to include Coding, Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDIP), Cancer Data Management (CDM), and Birth Certificate Completion. Ensures all performance standards are met and that the department is in compliance with federal and state regulations, laws and the policies of the organization. Acts as a site resource for medico-legal issues relating to confidentiality, privacy and access to patient health information. Manages HIM Department employees, fiscal responsibility for three cost centers, participates in organizational performance improvement initiatives as well promoting excellent quality and service through various initiatives. Acts as the Horizon Patient Folder (HPF) administrator.
1. HIM Operations:
â�¢Monitors quality and productivity for HIM operations.
â�¢Ensures birth certificates are completed and submitted within the regulatory timeframes and meeting the quality standards.
â�¢Ensures ROI requests are completed within the regulatory timeframes and within the regulatory constraints.
â�¢Ensures the physician suspension process is followed and meets the regulatory requirements.
â�¢Ensures the P/S/I functions are completed within the specified timeframes while meeting the quality metrics.
â�¢Manages the physician orders within the Cerner message center.
2. Coding Operations:
â�¢Monitors quality and productivity for the coding operations.
â�¢Ensures that the DNFC metrics are met on a consistent basis.
â�¢Ensures OSHPD data is accurate, complete and submitted within the regulatory timeframes, trouble- shooting any issues.
â�¢Runs appropriate reports for finance, physician requests, and regulatory requirements.
3. Clinical Documentation Improvement Operations:
â�¢Collaborates with Clinical Documentation Integrity Manager for the clinical documentation improvement program.
4. Cancer Data Management Operations:
â�¢Monitors quality and productivity for the cancer data management program operations.
â�¢Ensures that all regulatory requirements are met for reporting and quality.
â�¢Ensures the registry maintains the CoC Accreditation.
â�¢Monitors and manages the budgets for three distinct cost centers within budget constraints.
â�¢Selects, trains, schedules, motivates, supervises, and evaluates HIM employees. Follows established processes for employee performance management.
â�¢Ensures appropriate staffing so as not to incur any backlogs.
â�¢Creates, updates, and implements department policies and procedures.
â�¢Monitors quality and productivity for all areas within the Health Information Management Department.
â�¢Participates in organization wide PI activities and patient satisfaction activities.
â�¢Participates in medical staff meetings.
â�¢Co-chairs the medical record committee and the cancer committee.
â�¢Acts as a resource for record retention and patient confidentiality questions.
Minimum Experienceâ�¢Five (5) years progressively more responsible experience in an acute care Health Information Management Department required.
Preferred Skills and Abilitiesâ�¢Knowledge of Cerner EMR system
Knowledge and Abilities
â�¢Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills with full command of the English language.
â�¢Strong organizational skills.
â�¢Proficient in Microsoft Office, including word processing and Excel spreadsheets required.
â�¢Expertise in EMR systems and coding systems.
â�¢Knowledgeable in Federal and State regulatory requirements as well as Joint Commission Standards.
