WORK SCHEDULE: Days/Evenings, occasional Saturday coverage; on call required
WORK TYPE: Part Time (.5 FTE) - 40 Hours Bi-Weekly; 40W Overtime
BARGAINING UNIT POSITION
Coordinates care with the anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, and the peri-operative nursing staff. Responsible for assisting with the management of the Acute Pain Service / Regional Anesthesia Program (APS/RAP), including providing patient care and monitoring, and providing education services to both in- and outpatients. Works closely with patients, families, physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary personnel in the care of the patients. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center and the Anesthesiology Service Line in its efforts to provide quality patient care, patient satisfaction and continuous quality improvement.
Works under the general direction of the anesthesiologist. Reports directly to the Geisinger Northeast Operations Manager.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
For Registered Nurses with less than five (5) years work experience as an RN, a BSN degree is required or enrollment in a BSN program within 12 months of hire date with BSN degree completed within 4 years of hire date is required.
For Registered Nurses with more than 5 years of work experience as an RN in an acute/inpatient capacity, a BSN degree is not required.
For current Geisinger Registered Nurses who transfer into this position, BSN degree is preferred.
BLS certification preferred and required within 60 days of employment.
ACLS/PALS may be required within 1 year of employment (unit specific).
Duration of on-the-job training to become familiar with job duties varies by individual unit.
Minimum of five years clinical experience in various types of inpatient and outpatient nursing with transferable clinical skills, experiences and organizational capability required.
Experience with pain management, placement of epidurals and various catheters preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. The majority of time, the APS / RAP Nurse will be working in an inpatient unit or other clinical location requiring extensive travel among clinical units within the medical center (standing, walking = 80%, sitting / typing = 20%).
Hours: Day shift hours (M-F) with occasional Saturday coverage. Occasional night / weekend call (on a rotating basis if possible) for questions from discharged surgical patients with post-op pain control pump or catheter problems.
