Registered Nurse - Neurosurgery

Job Summary:
This position involves delivery of nursing care based upon nursing process as well as some supervision and coordination of nursing personnel activities according to the hospital's policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ability to prepare neurosurgery patient for surgery in SDS setting.
- Ability to prepare neurosurgery patient for surgery in inpatient floor setting.
- Ability to circulate all neurosurgical cases independently.
- Ability to scrub all neurosurgical cases independently.
- Ability to assist neurosurgeon in neurosurgical cases as needed.
- Ability to care for patient in PACU in the immediate postoperative period.
- Ability to assess post op neurosurgical patient's wound.
- Ability to set up bedside sterile field in hospital setting.
- Ability to setup, operate, shutdown, and troubleshoot all basic surgery equipment in operating room.
- Ability to setup, operate, shutdown, and troubleshoot neurosurgery-specific equipment / instruments.
- Knowledge of sterile technique and maintenance of sterility of surgical field.
- Assists the neurosurgical team during the operative procedure.
- Completes perioperative record accurately and completely.
- Charges accurately for items used in the operating room.
- Effectively communicates with neurosurgeon.
- Fosters a strong cooperative professional relationship with team members.
- Serves as a resource to healthcare professionals outside of department.
- Effectively communicates with sales / equipment representatives.
- Ability to perform independent neurological assessment of patient in hospital setting.
- Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies.
- Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in education programs.
Registered Nurse Sign On Bonus Eligibility Requirements:
- The sign on bonus is available for full-time Registered Nurse positions.
- This sign on bonus is not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past two years
